KAFB officials say it could take 2 years to clean up jet fuel
By Eddie Garcia, KOB Eyewitness News 4 (Albuquerque, NM) October 19, 2011A Kirtland Air Force Base official is saying it will be another two years until they can form a game-plan to tackle the jet-fuel contamination in the city's southeast side.
The information came out at a water authority meeting. The city councilor who represents that area said that is unacceptable and cleanup needs to be happening now.
Councilor Rey Garduno is not blaming Kirtland for the two-year time table, but the New Mexico Environment Department which he said is changing the way this problem is being addressed - for the worse.
