Subject: [CPEO-MEF] Easement near Avon Park Range (FL)
Ridge gets Florida Forever easement

Tampa Bay Business Journal
June 16, 2005

The Lake Wales Ridge ecosystem project stands to benefit from a
state-backed program aimed at protecting natural resources while
strengthening national security.

Gov. Jeb Bush and the Florida Cabinet decided Thursday to acquire a
perpetual conservation easement on 877 acres within the ecosystem
through the Florida Forever program. The ecosystem, which stretches from
southern Polk County to Lake Okeechobee, is said to support wildlife
found nowhere else in the world.

The 877-acre parcel borders Avon Park Air Force Range and is threatened
by encroachment from citrus groves and development pressures. The
perpetual conservation easement allows the property owner to continue
using the land while protecting it from development.
