Wabash Y handed deed New building will occupy 1 of 5 cleaned brownfields By Becky Manley Fort Wayne Journal Gazette (IN) January 24, 2007WABASH - The deed for a former brownfield in downtown Wabash was passed Tuesday from the city to the organizers of a new YMCA.
Gov. Mitch Daniels was among those in attendance at the Honeywell Center who watched Mayor Robert Vanlandingham read a proclamation marking the deed transfer.
Before it was cleaned, the property at 410 S. Carroll St. contained a building with a saggy roof, buckling walls and waste that posed a hazard to the environment, Vanlandingham said.
"The city's more than anxious to get this property into your hands," Vanlandingham said to Julie Echard, executive director of the YMCA.
