Navy urges drinking water testing for potential PFAS by NSA Northwest Annex The U.S. Navy requests permission from nearby landowners to test water wells for PFAS contamination. 13News Now (Norfolk, VA) May 21, 2025 CHESAPEAKE, Va. — The U.S. Navy is asking property owners near the Naval Support Activity Hampton Roads Northwest Annex to allow testing of their private drinking water wells for possible contamination by per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, commonly known as PFAS or "forever" chemicals. The request comes as part of the Navy’s ongoing environmental investigation into the historic use of firefighting foams at military installations. Firefighting foam contains PFAS and could be linked to potential health risks, including cancer and immune system issues.
