West Side leaders seek report on KAFB spill

An organization of West Side neighborhood leaders has asked the New  
Mexico Legislature to again issue a memorial to ask for an  
independent task force of experts to study the effects of the  
Kirtland Air Force Base jet fuel spill, which leaders said threatens  
their drinking water supply even if it originated miles away from  
their homes and neighborhoods.

The West Side Coalition of Neighborhood Associations unanimously  
passed the resolution at its Wednesday night meeting, hoping their  
effort will turn up pressure for local and national officials tasked  
with ascertaining the extent and danger of the more-than-two-decade- 
old spill

The resolution asks that the Legislature reissue the memorial for  
protection of the water supply, public health and the environment,  
and that a task force complete its report and send it to New Mexico’s  
Congressional delegation.
