After 7 years, former Army Reserve Center has new role as Bristol  
recreation center

BRISTOL - A large symbolic key to the former U.S. Army Reserve Center  
in Colt State Park was handed over to the town Tuesday in a ceremony  
attended by most of the state’s congressional delegation, other  
dignitaries and about 250 day campers who next year could be using  
the facility as a recreation center.

Parks and Recreation Director Walter Burke said the project was part  
of the "No Child Left Inside" program in Bristol.

Actually, the transfer was part of the federal government's Base  
Realignment and Closure program. Army Reserve activities in Bristol  
were moved, along with those of bases in Providence and Warwick, to a  
new center at Naval Station Newport.
