Corps: Soil cleanup complete at site of former arsenal BY ALGIS J. LAUKAITIS LINCOLN JOURNAL STAR (NE) November 15, 2012YUTAN -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says it has cleaned up all of the contaminated soil at the former Nebraska Ordnance Plant near Mead.
The clean-up represents a significant milestone, project manager Kristine Stein said. All that is left is cleaning up groundwater at the old munitions plant.
"At this point, there is no risk to human health and the environment. It's within the acceptable risk range," she said Wednesday.
Any contamination left in the soil is within health standards set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Stein said.
