Old pollution puts brakes on mountain-bike park By Mark Schlueb Orlando Sentinel (FL) November 9, 2012It's been two years since hundreds of volunteers turned out for cleanups and trailblazing to turn a piece of old Navy land near downtown into Orlando's first mountain-bike park. Hopes ran high, and it looked as if the park would open within a few months. But that never happened, and the gate at the park entrance remains padlocked. The issue: chemical pollution lurking in the soil that could take another year to clean up. "We're at a giant standstill," said mountain-bike enthusiast Mario Maenza, who runs a Facebook page with 1,400 members who pushed for the park. ...
