I just discovered that due to my addressing error my comment on the
LA Daily article did not make it out to the list. Here they are:
As I've said on my visits to the communities around Rocketdyne, as well as directly to the state legislature (in authorizing Community Advisory Groups) and DTSC: I believe that a broadly based Community Advisory Group can be a valuable tool in seeing that cleanup is maximized at the Santa Susana Field Laboratory and that the public is protected. CAGs, Restoration Advisory Boards, and Site-Specific Advisory Boards have been helping communities across the country get major contamination sites cleaned up for two decades. For my personal local experience in the San Francisco Bay Area, see http:// www.cpeo.org/pubs/RegionalPlume.pdf. I think it's unfortunate that one group of activists is claiming that other community members and the Department of Toxic Substances Control are essentially in Boeing's pocket. I don't believe that's true, and I don't see how that promotes remedial decision-making in an environment that is challenging both technically and politically.
