Cleanup one step closer By Whitney Saporito Neosho Daily News (MO) July 21, 2012Neosho, Mo. - Cleanup of the Pools Prairie Superfund Site is one step closer to completion. Dwight Douglas, president of the Community Advisory Group that has been working toward the cleanup, announced the progress Thursday in a meeting with area officials and engineers. The contaminated spot, located near Crowder College on Doniphan Drive, is the last of four sites in the Crowder area. Douglas said the soil in that area is contaminated with trichloroethylene (TCE), a chlorinated hydrocarbon used commonly as an industrial solvent and left over from the 1960s construction of Apollo rocket engines. ...He said the four potential responsible parties are the Department of Defense, as Air Force plant 65 was once located there; Boeing North America, successor to Rocketdyne Neosho, which was also located on that site at one time; and Saberliner Corporation and Teledyne, as they, too, were once located on that site. ...
