State helps towns buy land Mystic River Press Staff May 4, 2012HARTFORD - State Senator Andrew Maynard (D-Stonington) and State Representatives Tom Reynolds (D-Ledyard) and Elissa Wright (DGroton) announced last week that the state of Connecticut would soon make an investment in conjunction with the Town of Groton and the Town of Ledyard to acquire land adjacent to the United States Navy Submarine Base New London.
Acquisition of the land is expected to enhance the military value of the base by preventing encroachment along its boundaries. The effort is the latest in a series of moves by state and federal officials to avoid possible closure of the base during any future military Base Realignment and Closure process.
