Pol blasts inaction on cache of explosive ammo lying in shallow water
off Verrazano Bridge
BY Alison Gendar NEW YORK DAILY NEWS June 30, 2011WASHINGTON - Boaters are going to have to steer clear of part of the Verrazano Bridge where a diver found an arsenal of unexploded ammunition.
Local diver Gene Ritter discovered the cache in October at the base of the bridge.
The 1,500 rounds of ammo, a 3-inch-around projectile and cartridges, are still lying in less than 20 feet of water in Gravesend Bay near the base of the bridge's Brooklyn tower.
