Fontana Water Co. announces two-year perchlorate study

FONTANA - One of the region's largest privately-owned water companies 
has reached out to the federal government to study contaminated water.

The Fontana Water Co., a division of the privately-owned San Gabriel 
Valley Water Co., announced Tuesday that the U.S. Geological Survey has 
begun a two-year study to identify the direction of perchlorate plumes 
in underground water flows in Fontana and Rialto, a project that will 
cost roughly $262,000.

The study will be paid for by the U.S. Department of Defense's 
Environmental Security Technology Certification Program, company 
officials said.

In September, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency placed the 
160-acre BF Goodrich site in north Rialto on its Superfund National 
Priorities List.
