Frederick County Commissioner David Gray hasn't made up his mind about
the proposed expansion of biodefense labs at Fort Detrick.

That, he said, is why he called for Monday night's forum to discuss the
growth of the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases.

"That's what I'm there for, to listen to people," he said.

The government has proposed to add 675,000 square feet of administrative
space and biosafety level-2, -3, and -4 space at USAMRIID.

BSL-4 labs are where researchers study agents with a high risk of
life-threatening disease for which no vaccine or therapy is available,
according to the National Institutes of Health.
