Growth around Cherry Point discussed by civilian, military officials

HAVELOCK - Exponential growth surrounding Cherry Point is the region's boon and the bane for the military, officials from area counties and towns said at a civilian-military legislative day.

It was the first legislative day the Civilian Military Community Council representing Craven, Carteret, Pamlico and Jones counties has sponsored since 2001, said Jay Bender, Pollocksville Mayor and chairman of the council formed 25 years ago to foster better rapport between civilian and military communities.

"Development in Carteret County is on fire," said John Langdon, Carteret County manager, noting $1.2 billion in development there in the last five years.
