Growth supported until it lands in back yard

Clarksville Leaf-Chronicle (TN)
December 31, 2005

Many Clarksvillians are all for growth, as long as it's not near them.

The mindset even has a formal name - "Not in My Back Yard" (NIMBY). It
was a sentiment expressed several times locally, including the Sabre
Heliport Overlay and plans for a sports complex off Old Russellville Pike.

"The 'NIMBY' phenomenon is not new to Clarksville or exclusive to
Clarksville-Montgomery County," said David Riggins, director of the
Clarksville-Montgomery County Regional Planning Commission. "We hear of
people in our community who tout growth and progress, but not if it
impacts them."

The Clarksville-Montgomery County Regional Planning Commission is
juggling a proposal to have an Overlay District placed on land adjacent
to Fort Campbell's Sabre Heliport. Fort Campbell officials say the
overlay is needed to ease the impact future nearby residential
development will have on the military installation's Sabre Heliport.
