Join state and federal government representatives; independent
scientists; citizens and advisory board members living near federal
facilities; installation representatives; and regulators to look at
technical information needs and the role of citizen participation in the
environmental cleanup process at Department of Defense (DoD) and
Department of Energy (DOE) facilities.

The mission of the Workshop is to examine the roles of citizens,
professional or technical experts, installation representatives,
regulators, independent scientists and college professors in active
cleanup through improving the understanding of technical topics at RAB,
CAB and SSAB meetings. ISIS will use this information to structure the
National Technical Experts Network (NTEN) and make it a useful tool for
those involved in cleanup.

The Workshop will consist of plenary sessions focused on matters of
general interest and smaller breakout groups focused on more specific
issues. ISIS is currently in the final stage of developing an agenda and
we will make that public as it becomes available. Currently, topics to
be covered include:

- Risk Assessment Analysis
- Technical Information Needs
- Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) & Ranges: Cleanup Options & Opportunities
- The Role of the Citizen-Expert
- Finding the Resources in Diverse Communities
- The Role of States & Tribal Governments in Cleanup
- Using the World Wide Web to Access Information
- High Level Nuclear Waste Disposal: Yucca Mountain
- Privatization & Early Transfer
- New Science Needed for Effective Cleanup

A limited number of travel stipends are available. Please contact us for
further information.

ISIS is a non-profit organization experienced in technical assistance
and community involvement issues, and is based in Amherst,
Massachusetts.

We will make more detailed information available as soon as possible.
