U.S. Mortar Bomb Kills Two Boys in Vietnam

HANOI (Reuters) - Two young boys were killed when a U.S. mortar bomb
exploded in central Vietnam this week, underscoring the danger of
leftover war ordnance just weeks before a historic visit by President
Clinton (news - web sites).

The bomb exploded after the boys aged 12 and 14 started playing with it
while grazing cattle in the village of Deo Gio in Quang Ngai province on
Monday, local police chief Co Van Tung said. Both were killed instantly.

``Apparently the two boys found the mortar and one started hitting it,''
Tung said.

Dozens of deaths caused by leftover war ordnance are reported in Vietnam
