Subject: BRAC 1995 CLEANUP UPDATE

My initial posting of the BRAC 1995 List was based upon a press
release. Since then, I have obtained and read the BRAC Commission
Report. The following list adds several facilities, some of which are
marked (*D) as downsizing realignments, and deletes the Pittsburgh
International Airport, which did not make the final cut.

While facility closures are clear-cut, realignments are not. It is
sometimes difficult to distinguish activity reductions from facility
downsizing. I have attempted to do so based upon the scanty information
in the BRAC report, but it may be some time before we know whether this
list accurately reflects the implementation of the BRAC Commission's
recommendations.

Annual Report, March 31, 1995
NPL denotes bases currently on or proposed for the
"Superfund" National Priorities List.
DLA = Defense Logistics Agency
The BRAC Commission defines bases differently than
the cleanup program. We have attempted to match them
as well as possible.
*D Downsizing realignments.
*1 Listed in the DERP Report as Bellmore Maintenance
Facility.
*2 Bergstrom Air Reserve Base sits on the site of
Bergstrom Air Force Base, approved for closure in
1991. The cleanup figures here are for the entire
Bergstrom base.
*3 Listed in the DERP Report as Bethesda
NavMedCom.
*4 Listed in the DERP Report as Rio Vista Reserve
Training Area.
*5 Listed in the DERP Report as Fort Devens, Sudbury
Annex.

If anyone knows the prospective disposition of other major realignment
bases, such as Ft. Greely, AK, please let me know.
