Cleanup at Pawling brownfield moves forward

PAWLING - The next phase of the cleanup of an abandoned gas station in the Village of Pawling has begun. Workers today began placing a site cover at 33 West Main Street, which is one of 12 Dutchess County sites that are still active within the state's Brownfield Cleanup Program.

The current phase will consist of placing the cover, which can consist either of buildings, pavement, sidewalk or a minimum of two feet of clean soil.

Workers today began laying blacktop.

The quarter-acre property includes a 10,000 square foot building and a small parking lot. A tributary to the East Branch of the Croton River borders the eastern boundary of the property.
