By Alison Black Kalamazoo Gazette (MI) August 18, 2007SOUTH HAVEN -- State environmental officials this week characterized South Haven's Factory Condominium site as ``one of the most polluted sites in the state of Michigan.'' "The concentrations (of pollutants) are astronomical" Michigan Department of Environmental Quality Assistant District Supervisor Frank Ballo told concerned residents and condominium owners during a public meeting Thursday at City Hall. ...In 1999, under the auspices of the Brownfield Redevelopment Authority, the MDEQ awarded the City of South Haven a $570,000 Site Reclamation grant, which paid for the 2004 installation of a sub-floor ventilation system and vapor barrier beneath the health club -- under which the site's greatest concentration of TCE is located. ...
