Agency overseeing cleanup at industrial site By TORY N. PARRISH Utica Observer Dispatch (NY) April 20, 2007The Oneida County Industrial Development Agency is overseeing the cleanup of an industrial site in Rome where contamination has been found. The 55-acre site was formerly occupied by Rome Cable, which filed for bankruptcy and closed in 2003, at Ridge and South Jay streets. "We're cleaning it up so that we can bring online a piece of contaminated old industrial land back into industrial use by the community," said Shawna Papale, executive director of the development agency. ...Trichloroethylene, a cleaning solvent, was found to extend to areas between South Jay and Henry streets on that portion of property, said Paul Romano, senior managing engineer with Shumaker Consulting Engineering and Land Surveying P.C., a firm in Utica conducting the site evaluations and cleanup.
