$250 million eyed for brownfields rehab Republican-American February 16, 2007 BY PAUL HUGHES HARTFORD, CT -- A new study recommends an initial $250 million, five-year state investment for cleaning and redeveloping polluted properties known as brownfields. This $250 million would finance loans, grants and tax incentives to entice local governments, developers and businesses to put money into redevelopment efforts. "Brownfields can be a large-scale industrial complex or a small gas station site," said Gary B. O'Connor, a Waterbury attorney and co-chairman of the state task force that prepared the brownfields study. The group presented its recommendations to the legislature's commerce and environment committees Thursday.
