Neighbors worry contamination could spread By Shandra Martinez The Grand Rapids Press (MI) January 16, 2007DOUGLAS -- Paul Wicks' plans to redevelop his 18-hole West Shore golf course off Ferry Street into an upscale residential development with a 9-hole course has some neighbors worried. The southern portion of the 90-acre property sits on a groundwater contaminant plume. ...But it suggested a plan for using a $2.2 million state grant to clean the groundwater as well as construction technology such as foundation wraps and vapor recovery systems that could allow for building homes on the site. The clean-up never happened, said Douglas Mayor Matt Balmer, adding he was told the money set aside for the work since has been used for other projects.
