June Street area to be tested for TCE
DEC to check soil, groundwater samples

ENDICOTT -- Preliminary testing for a hazardous pollutant will take 
place in the coming weeks in the June Street area of western Endicott.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation will collect 
additional soil vapor and groundwater samples in the area generally 
bounded by the Nanticoke Creek to the north and west, Maple Street to 
the south and Nanticoke Avenue to the east.

A van mounted with a Geoprobe rig or a drill rig will collect 
groundwater and soil vapor samples as the DEC tests for 
trichloroethylene (TCE) vapors on Union and Endicott sidewalks and 
right-of-ways.

Some air sampling may also be collected from a number of homes with the 
permission of the property owner. Informational letters should be mailed 
out soon by the DEC.
