Long-sought industrial park takes step toward reality
When Muskegon County officials meet today to break ground for the new industrial park on the former Cordova Chemical site in Dalton Township, they will have plenty to celebrate. After all, turning a relative disaster area into a potential job-producing zone is no small feat. But anyone watching for factories to open in the park and jobs to hit the want ads will have to wait awhile. ... A few years ago, establishing anything valuable on the property seemed like a long shot. When the county was sold the property for $1 in 2002, it inherited a Superfund cleanup site that had experienced severe soil and groundwater contamination. ...
