Pulse: Tell renters about TCE pollution
Law would mandate notification of tenants within Endicott plume

ENDICOTT - Mayor Joan Hickey Pulse said Monday that she will draft a law
requiring landlords to notify tenants that they live within a
subterranean plume of chemical vapors.

"Some are unaware that we even had a problem," Pulse said. "They should
be told by a realtor or landlord."

Pulse said she plans to work with the village attorney to draft a
proposed ordinance in the next couple months. If a law is adopted,
landlords and realtors would be required to inform occupants, homebuyers
and future tenants looking to move into the area, she said.

A Press & Sun-Bulletin investigation in October revealed that some
renters were not aware that they lived in the plume area; some said
their landlords had failed to notify them.
