EPA to consult public on Upjohn cleanup

NORTH HAVEN — Town officials and local environmental groups will be asked to
voice their opinions next month about future uses of the former Upjohn plant
site, once it is cleared of contamination. 

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has named the former Upjohn plant one
of the nation's five pilot sites for a new program designed to bring community
members into the cleanup process earlier.

The program is called the EPA Resource Conservation and Recovery
Act/Brownfields Pilot.

It will kick off in September with a meeting among people who represent
organizations that are considered stakeholders in the cleanup process.
