Subject: Fw: Fw: IMPORTANT LINK for the Alvarez /Arjun article on the hidden legacy of Manhattan Project

Dear RECA Folks,

Fyi -   Those of us here in Ohio dealing with radiation have done our best to convey our deep concerns about Ohio being left out of RECA.  We were therefore gratified to then see PORTS get included in the second go round.  Likewise,  so happy that St. Louis's landfill, used for dumping deadly radium, helped to spearhead the recent advancements of RECA nationally.  This was key in exposing an aspect of the Manhattan Project:  improper landfill disposal.  This is a topic that has been sorely neglected for decades.  I know.  I have knocked on countless doors trying to raise awareness, and so did Denver's activist, Adrienne Anderson, regarding our respective landfills and plutonium disposal.

For whatever reason, we both experienced very puzzling on-going resistance.   Sure, we assumed the government doesn't want it known,  but there was baffling resistance and exclusion also from people who put forth they were for radiation victims.   Perhaps, it was a matter of just not understanding....

The below profoundly important report was given to my group CCLT in early 1990s.  Written by Alvarez and Arjun Makhijani in 1988, this outlined among other things, how the US government had thought plutonium , given how particle reactive it is, would "stay put" dumped on the soils in sites for thousands of years and not migrate.  They were wrong.  We suspect this "mistake" is one reason the lid is being kept on the coverup here at Uniontown IEL to this very day.

Ironically it was Bob Alvarez who told me in a meeting his office in D.C. at Glenn's, along with Marvin Resnikoff and Dr. Henry Cole:...", that they ( the government) could no longer invoke national security on us, that it was government embarrassment, liability or both"..  Please note Ohio in the report figuring prominently, just like DOE's own booklet, Closing the Circle on the Splitting of the Atom."  ( and again, making us scratch our heads regarding what powerful people don't want Ohio in RECA)...Please remember our rad victims here in Ohio, including Wingfoot Lake, former top secret government facility and sister site to PORTS in southern Ohio in centrifuge development.

In Solidarity,

Chris for CCLT/Uniontown IEL Superfund Site, OH.
