Moses Lake Explores Water Treatment Options for Contaminated Well

MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake City Council reviewed engineering reports and funding updates this week as the city continues efforts to address contamination in Well 29, a key municipal water source impacted by PFAS “forever chemicals.”

Well 29, located near the Grant County International Airport, has tested intermittently above state and federal limits for PFAS, a group of persistent chemicals associated with industrial activities and firefighting foam used at the former Larson Air Force Base. City officials have recorded PFAS levels in Well 29 as high as 50 parts per trillion, exceeding the state’s 10 ppt threshold for potable water. The well is considered a valuable water source due to its high production capacity and sustainable supply.
