Subject: | [CPEO-MEF] Occupational Exposure to Vapor-Gas, Dust, and Fumes in Rural Adults |
Dear Lenny, I came across this study today: Doney BC, Henneberger PK, Humann MJ, Liang X, Kelly KM,
Cox-Ganser JM. Occupational
Exposure to Vapor-Gas, Dust, and Fumes in a Cohort of Rural Adults in Iowa Compared with a
Cohort of Urban Adults. MMWR Surveillance Summaries November 3, 2017;66(No.
SS-21):1–5. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.15585/mmwr.ss6621a1
This health
study of rural adults in the southernmost county of Iowa
1994–2011 showed rural residents were more likely to have medium or high occupational
vapor-gas, dust, and fumes VGDF exposure at their last job (43% on average) than
urban workers (15%) from another study. VGDF exposure varied by farming status,
but interestingly, even among rural participants who had never farmed 27% had medium
or high VGDF exposure , i.e. twice as many as urban workers.
This
background risk ought to be borne in mind when assessing vapor intrusion risk
from military toxics sites.
Sincerely, Christine Ziebold _______________________________________________ Military mailing list Military@lists.cpeo.org http://lists.cpeo.org/listinfo.cgi/military-cpeo.org | |
