OSCODA, MI - More private drinking wells are testing positive for toxic fluorocarbons leaching from the former Wurtsmith Air Force Base and the chemical plumes have crossed an inland lake on their way to Lake Huron.

The latest chemical plume map of the area shows a private well testing between 51 and 300 parts-per-trillion (ppt) for total perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs) on the west side of U.S. 23 just south of Interlake Drive in Oscoda Township.

It's the farthest east the chemicals have yet been discovered and the new test results significantly expand the area where people could be drinking unsafe water.
