U.S. EPA decision allows for redevelopment at former McClellan Air Force Base Newsroom America Feeds August 4, 2016 SAN FRANCISCO – Today, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced that a portion of the McClellan Air Force Base Superfund site in Sacramento does not require any additional cleanup. The Agency assessed 46 acres at the former base for shallow soil and soil gas contamination and determined that no further action is needed. The 35 separate areas included in this decision are located to the east and south of the airfield and were investigated or cleaned up between the late 1990s and 2012. These areas supported aircraft repair, testing, and support facilities; fuel storage and distribution facilities; storage areas; and waste handling and treatment areas.
