State: More than nine of 10 people tested have PFCs in system By KIMBERLEY HAAS Union-Leader (NH) June 16. 2016 PORTSMOUTH - State health officials have released the results of blood tests performed on people who drank contaminated water at the former Pease Air Force Base. It was revealed during a public hearing Thursday evening that three perfluorochemical compounds, or PFCs, were detected in more than 94 percent of the over 1,500 adults and children tested through the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services last year. These include PFOS, PFOA and PFHxS. Dr. Benjamin Chan, the state’s epidemiologist, said the contamination likely came from firefighting foam used by the Air Force on the former base. He said the Department of Defense continues to use the foam, which is extremely effective in putting out petroleum-based fires. … For the entire article, see http://www.unionleader.com/Blood-tests-for-PFCs-reveal-heavy-impact-on-Seacoast-06162016 -- Lenny Siegel Executive Director, Center for Public Environmental Oversight a project of the Pacific Studies Center 278-A Hope St., Mountain View, CA 94041 Voice: 650/961-8918 or 650/969-1545 Fax: 650/961-8918 <lsiegel@cpeo.org> http://www.cpeo.org _______________________________________________ Military mailing list Military@lists.cpeo.org http://lists.cpeo.org/listinfo.cgi/military-cpeo.org | |
