Air Force: Could take decades to restore Pease water
Advisory board holds first meeting

PORTSMOUTH – An Air Force official told members of the Pease Restoration Advisory Board it will “probably (take) decades to restore the water” at the former Pease Air Force Base.

Peter Forbes, the environmental engineering program manager for the U.S. Air Force Civil Engineer Center, also said the Air Force has spent “in the neighborhood of $15 million” over the last two years trying to track and address water contamination by “contaminants of emerging concerns.”
Forbes reported that it will likely cost the Air Force “nine or ten million” to pay for a carbon filtration system to treat t
he now closed city-owned Haven well and two other wells at the Pease International Tradeport.

He told the crowd of about 50 people that “we have more people here tonight than in the previous RAB meetings we had in the 90s.”
