Cleanup at former Schilling base could be sooner than later By TIM UNRUH Salina Journal (KS) March 17, 2016 When Salina leaders first squared off against the federal government over contamination at the former Schilling Air Force Base, the community was warned that it could be decades before any cleanup occurred. Heads are definitely grayer than in 2007, when formal talks began with the federal government, but after the latest was shared Wednesday morning at the Salina Airport Authority’s monthly meeting, chances are better that the combatants will outlive the mess.
