PORTSMOUTH - The City Council will hold a workshop meeting to talk about a federal agency’s plan to create a Community Advisory Panel to help address concerns about a contaminated city-owned well.

The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry will meet with City Council Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. to “present its mission and structure” and discuss the CAP, City Manager John Bohenko said.

The workshop meeting, which will be held in council chambers in City Hall, comes after Mayor Jack Blalock wrote a letter to the regional director of the ATSDR asking that five of Portsmouth's former Community Advisory Board members be allowed to serve on the CAP.

“In response to public input, the CAB has recommended that some of its former members should also serve on the new CAP,” Blalock said in a letter to Tarah Somers, ATSDR’s regional director.
