Local leaders and the San Antonio Water System announced plans Tuesday for an $11 million project to build nearly 4 miles of pipeline to help ensure that San Antonio will remain “Military City USA.”

SAWS officials said the city-owned utility has made construction of a 1,700-foot-long pipeline to Camp Bullis its top priority in an agreement with Joint Base San Antonio to be the primary water source for the 28,000-acre North Side training reservation, which currently relies on wells in the Trinity Aquifer.

“Camp Bullis has Trinity wells that are very susceptible to drought. They quickly can find themselves in a dire situation,” SAWS CEO Robert Puente said.
