Join SERDP and ESTCP on Thursday, July 16 for two presentations on Department of Defense (DoD) research efforts to develop perchlorate-free flares and projectiles. First, Dr. Eric Miklaszewski, Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division, will discuss the removal of environmentally-hazardous perchlorate oxidizers from red- and green-emitting pyrotechnic flares, and the reformulation of visible signal flares to remove perchlorate while still achieving performance requirements. Second, Dr. Jared Moretti, U.S. Army Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center, Picatinny Arsenal, will discuss the identification of perchlorate-free formulations for the Army’s M8 and Navy’s Mk257 .50-caliber incendiary projectiles, and the performance data of two candidate formulations compared to current in-service incendiary mixtures through system demonstration in the actual bullet hardware.
