Willow Grove Naval Air Base contamination topic of meeting By Gary Weckselblatt The Intelligencer (PA) December 2, 2013The Navy and Air Force soon will be updating Horsham residents on the remaining environmental issues at the former Willow Grove Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base.
...Mike McGee, executive director of the Horsham Land Redevelopment Authority, said "This is extremely important for us in terms of planning. He said having the NAS-JRB closed by the feds' Base Realignment and Closure means the township wants it cleaned up as soon as possible to get it back on the tax rolls. Now that it is BRAC- ed, it's extremely important to us."
The former base is rated a Superfund site, with as many as 12 areas originally designated for cleanup. Three areas remain in need of remediation - the Ninth Street landfill off Horsham Road; the fire training area, on the southwest side of the base; and the south landfill, just south of the fire training area.
