Navy: Low-level radioactive soil found near IB
Officials say no significant risk to public health

The Navy has found low-level radioactive material at a landing field near Imperial Beach, but a military official said the material doesn't pose a significant risk to public health.

"The amount of material found was minimal and appropriate protection of the removed soil is in place to reduce wind erosion," the Navy said in a statement Wednesday afternoon.

Mayor Jim Janney of Imperial Beach said the contamination doesn’t pose a problem.
