Sellersville wants say in future of contaminated U.S. Gauge site

As the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency works on completing its  
"final remedy" for groundwater contamination at the 43-acre Ametek  
U.S. Gauge Division property on Clymer Avenue in Sellersville, the  
borough is weighing in on the matter.



"One of the things that has been proposed by the EPA are certain  
restrictions of how that land can be used in the future, regardless  
of who the owner is," said Randall White, Sellersville's attorney.  
"Clearly, this is the biggest tract of land left in the borough and  
the borough wants a seat at the table, at least with regard to  
restrictions."



In an EPA Statement of Basis, dated Aug. 23 of this year, the EPA  
says one of the restrictions should be, "Continued use of the site  
for industrial purposes only."



"I don't think there's any consensus among borough council as to what  
they'd like to see happen to that property, but they'd like to keep  
their options open," White said.
