EOD experts to detonate WWII bomb on Yokota Air Base

YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan – Bomb experts on Wednesday plan to detonate a 110-pound bomb that was found at an on-base construction site Tuesday.

An explosive ordnance disposal team from nearby Yokosuka Naval Base is leading efforts to bury the 110-pound bomb, cover it with metal plates and detonate it Wednesday afternoon, according to Yokota spokeswoman Tech Sgt. Robin Stanchak.

The no-go zone around the unearthed WWII-era bomb was extended to a 1,500-foot radius in preparation for the detonation.
