D.C. gets more of Walter Reed Army Medical Center campus by Michael Neibauer Washington Business Journal (DC) March 17, 2011D.C.'s cut of the Walter Reed Army Medical Center campus will include all street frontage along Georgia Avenue under revised boundaries unveiled Wednesday.
The District, the State Department and the U.S. Army renegotiated the boundaries after the General Services Administration relinquished its right to 34 acres late last year. The District plans a major mixed- use development on its portion of the 113-acre Walter Reed campus once the Army Medical Center vacates for Bethesda, perhaps as soon as 2012.
"This new boundary map greatly increases the development and job creation potential for the District by extending the District's control of the entire Georgia Avenue frontage," Mayor Vincent Gray said in a statement. "It will also allow for better connectivity across the site with new entrances off of 16th Street."
