Central York School District challenges Harley's numbers

York Daily Record/Sunday News (PA)
January 25, 2011

York, PA - Only about 25 acres of Harley-Davidson's 230-acre complex could possibly have environmental restrictions placed on it, an environmental engineer said.

The motorcycle manufacturer was in York County Common Pleas Court on Tuesday arguing that the Route 30 plant in Springettsbury Township has been over-appraised, resulting in Harley paying too much in property taxes to Central York School District.

Environmental engineer Stephen B. Fulton was hired by the school district to determine if the contamination on the property where the U.S. Navy used to produce ordinance detracts from the value of the property. In 1995, Harley entered an agreement with the Navy where the government is financially responsibly for 53 percent of any remediation.
