|Subject:||[CPEO-MEF] REUSE: University of Georgia to occupy Navy Supply Corps School|
Despite delay, UGA ready to take over base By LEE SHEARER Athens Banner-Herald (GA) January 20, 2011The University of Georgia is moving ahead with plans to occupy the now-vacant campus of the Navy Supply Corps School, even though last week's snowstorm delayed a critical legal step in transferring the 56-acre Normaltown campus from the federal government to the state.
UGA leaders plan to ask the University System Board of Regents next month to approve hiring a company to design and oversee renovations to the campus beginning in June or July, said Tim Burgess, senior vice president for finance and administration.
Meanwhile, lawyers soon will begin drawing up legal documents for a planned March 31 transfer of the property from the federal government to the University System of Georgia.
