While the Fort Meade Restoration Advisory Board (RAB) still has a lot of work to do regarding pollution coming from the military base, the board did make headway in their other goal–attracting more members.

The board, which is made up of community members and officials from Fort Meade, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the State, heard updates on a number of projects, most notably mitigation of an underground plume of the chemical Tetrachloroethene.

The plume originated on base at the Defense Reutilization and Marketing Office (DRMO). According to Jon Cherry, the project manager, the DRMO site was used by the Defense Property and Disposal Office as a dumpsite from the early 1960s to 1994.
