County may still be dump site Sites explored for sand dredged from Great Lakes Harbor mouth BY JILL TATGE-ROZELL Kenosha News (WI) June 4, 2010Several areas in Kenosha County and southeastern Wisconsin are being explored as possible locations for the deposit of material to be dredged from the Great Lakes Harbor by the naval station in Illinois.
Terese Van Donsel, an environmental engineer with the Navy, said the verbal withdrawl of a potential site by a Brighton landowner has prompted the search for alternative sites for the material.
"It has value as fill," Van Donsel said, adding that tests for contamination show levels far below what is deemed appropriate for reuse. "There is a potential for other end uses in the area."
