Former TCAAP property rebranded as 'Northern Pointe'

Quit calling it TCAAP.

The property that once housed the Twin Cities Army Ammunition Plant in 
Arden Hills is now going by "Northern Pointe."

The new name came out Thursday during a meeting between U.S. Army 
representatives and city officials as they discussed the upcoming 
auction of 585 acres of the 2,370-acre site.

Stan Harpstead, mayor of Arden Hills, said Northern Pointe is meant to 
get people thinking about what could be on the land as opposed to what 
has been there.

"Twin Cities Army Ammunition Plant isn't something that everybody runs 
to and says, 'This is a property we need to own,' " Harpstead said. "It 
deserves a new identity."

The General Services Administration, which is selling the land for the 
Army, is rebranding the site after developer Ryan Cos. pulled out of a 
deal to build retail space, offices and more than 1,000 homes last 
spring. The developer cited high cleanup costs as one of the reasons for 
dropping the project.
