Air Force free to transfer McClellan property in cleanup program

The U.S. Air Force can transfer any property impacted by a groundwater cleanup program that is ongoing at the former McClellan Air Force Base now that the cleanup program has achieved a major milestone with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Air Force announced Monday.

Environmental regulators concluded earlier this month that the cleanup systems in place are working as intended to clean up the groundwater contamination.

"This is great news for the Air Force and McClellan redevelopment," Steve Mayer, McClellan environmental coordinator for the Air Force Real Property Agency, said in a news release.

Without the U.S. EPA's stamp of approval, transferring the property would be more costly and time-consuming.
